Barbados Set For New Marina By 2016

Work is progressing well at a new marina in the Shallow Draft facility of Bridgetown Harbour, scheduled to open before summer 2016. In its first phase, the marina will have a 100 m long concrete pontoon where visiting boats will dock stern-to with the bows secured to a mooring.

The marina will have its own clearance offices for customs and immigration, as well as a range of shore facilities. According to Peter Gilkes of Barbados Tourism Marketing, “This new marina is being developed as part of the Government long-term plans to improve facilities for visiting yachts“.

Several transatlantic events organised by Cornell Sailing will finish in Barbados in 2016 as part of the celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of Barbados Independence.
