Aventura Zero Logs , News

Happy days are here again!

Despite the disturbances caused by the Covid crisis, the Outremer boatyard managed to maintain its production schedule and launched the latest Aventura with only a slight delay.

Towed by a large truck, Aventura Zero was carefully towed out of the Outremer yard and proceeded at a snail’s pace to the nearby launch area.

Two messages adorn Aventura’s hull: Juan Sebastian Elcano’s recognition as the first man to have circumnavigated the world 500 years ago; and my aim to complete a voyage along the same historic route in a vessel with a  zero carbon dioxide footprint.

A large crane lifted Aventura off its trailer and gently lowered her into the sea.

Compared to the launch of the first Aventura in 1974, the second in 1983, the third in 1997 and the fourth in 2014, the launch of my fifth Aventura was a rather mundane affair, no champagne, no speeches and even my happy smile hidden by a mask… but there she is happily floating in her element ready for adventures anew.

The EL.CA.NO. project has been sanctioned as an official event of the quincentenary celebrations of the Magellan-Elcano voyage.
