A fleet of 11 yachts in the Atlantic Odyssey took the start from Santa Cruz de Tenerife today at 11 a.m. local time bound for Barbados. The only boat unable to start was the German yacht Pico whose departure was delayed by a few days by technical problems.
Because of the light wind conditions there was no proper start, and the boats left the marina individually.

The boats are now making their way slowly on a SSW course, with the prospect of better winds once they have escaped the wind shadow of the Canary Islands.
A second fleet of 28 boats, also bound for Barbados, will start from Sao Vicente in the Cape Verde Islands on 23 November.
