Press release - The Islands Odyssey: Across the Pond in Easy Stages

Jimmy Cornell has launched this new rally for sailors who prefer to cross the Atlantic at a relaxed pace.

Lanzarote start

Starting in Lanzarote on 1 October 2015, the Islands Odyssey will call at all the Canary Islands before sailing south to the Cape Verdes. From there they will pick up the shortest trade wind route to Barbados. After a short stop, they will continue to Martinique in time for a Caribbean Christmas.

The Islands Odyssey builds on the success of the Odyssey events, launched by Jimmy Cornell in 2012, with the aim of returning to the spirit of his earlier rallies; that of non-competitive events for cruising sailors, with the emphasis on safety and enjoyment as well as the opportunity to participate in scientific and environmental projects.

Islands Odyssey participants benefit from a wealth of incentives, including free docking in all the ports visited and support during the voyage, online tracking via the Cornell Sailing website and advice from the experienced Cornell Sailing team. Sailors especially value the intimacy of the Odyssey events, with welcome parties and tourist activities organised in all the stopovers thanks to generous sponsors on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Islands Odyssey is unique among sailing rallies as it incorporates the Canaries Odyssey, an inter-island rally starting in Lanzarote that will give sailors the opportunity to explore every one of the seven major islands of the archipelago.

The Islands Odyssey is open to sailing monohulled and multihulled vessels with a minimum LOA of 27 ft (8.22 m). Entry fees have been kept low at €1200 and include two crew, with children under 16 going free. Yachts may join only the Canaries Odyssey section of the rally.

The Islands Odyssey is organised by Cornell Sailing Events Ltd, a British company specialising in sailing rallies including the Atlantic Odyssey, Canaries Odyssey, and Blue Planet Odyssey.

The Islands Odyssey is sponsored by Calero Marinas, Promotur Turismo Canarias, Barbados Tourism Marketing and the Martinique Tourist Board.
